hertzThe high performance Drive fitting from Riegens Lighting has been used with other Riegens luminaires as part of an energy efficiency refit campaign for leading vehicle rental company Hertz UK, based at Heathrow, Middlesex.

The brief was to provide a more energy efficient lighting scheme in the reception areas, Gold Patrons collection point and petrol filling areas as part of a complete building refurbishment/fit out of Hertz's £2m investment in their Heathrow operation.   Following a site survey and energy calculations survey, Riegens were included in the redesigned scheme by Rick Hawkins of Property Project Solutions, designers and project managers.

Riegens Drive petrol canopy fitting offering direct light distribution was used within the Gold Patrons area.  Used in conjunction with sophisticated lighting controls, the system automatically switched itself off during daylight hours and dimmed down when not in use during the night.  However presence detection allowed the lights to automatically switch to full power as soon as a customer approached to collect a vehicle.  The Drive fitting, which incorporates 2 x 55w TCL lamps, was also used to replace the existing HID fittings in the petrol forecourt area, again with absence/presence detection controls.

The main reception area was completely re-fitted and re-designed using Riegens recessed DL- ECO downlights using 2 x 14W lamps.  Utlising a new generation in energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps, the DL-ECO offers a downlight with greatly improved efficacy. The DL-ECO technology allows 25% energy reductions when compared with equivalent compact lamps with high frequency controls and savings of over 50% when compared to electromagnetic systems.  Riegens Capro recessed 600mm x 600mm luminaires were also installed in public areas of the building, controlled by absence/presence detection sensors.

Riegens have calculated energy savings with the new lighting scheme to be 54%, which equals £6,841 per annum with payback calculated at 16 months.
