aurora solaAurora has won an international accolade for its range of 4in1 insulation-covered SOLA downlights. The AU-DLM531, the AU-DLM532 and the AU-DLM533 were chosen from thousands of entries to win the coveted Red Dot Award: Product Design 2011 for high design quality in the Light & Lamps category.

The three new fire rated downlights are available in both GU10 and MR 16 formats. Available in fixed, adjustable and IP65 options, these aluminium products can be covered with thermal insulation thanks to an integrated heat sink which removes the need for downlight insulation guards.

Most downlights require space for heat to dissipate by either removing insulation or the use of an insulation guard is required. Aurora's SOLA fire rated downlights are designed to be covered with insulation. This simplifies installation, saves costs and complies with Part L1A & L1B of the Building Regulations.

The entire SOLA range uses an integrated intumescent material which seals the downlight and cuts-out in the event of a fire, and has been tested in 30, 60 and 90 minute fire-rated ceilings.

The intumescent material is a carbon polymer matrix, which, when subjected to high temperatures, will soften and release gases trapped within it. This will cause it to expand and maintain the integrity of the fire barrier.

SOLA's thermal management system extends lamp life and these downlighters are part of the full range of products including halogen, CFL and LED and can be fitted with 50W or 35W lamps. SOLA downlighters carry a two-year guarantee.

The downlighters have been tested to acoustic standards BS EN ISO 140-3 1995 and BS EN ISO 140-6 1998, confirming that they maintain the ability for an internal or separating floor to provide sound insulation.
