An export order for £215,000 of LED floodlights certified for Zone 1 Hazardous Area use is proving to be just the start of international orders for Hadar Lighting, part of the Ashington-based A-Belco Group.

The order, placed by their Daly Fluid Technologies, their Abu Dhabi-based distributor, is for 240 of the company's innovative HDL 106 LED Floodlights in triple and single lamp units which will be fitted onto four Rowan Drilling jack-up rigs currently working in the Middle East.

Hadar Lighting’s Engineering Director, Barry Thompson, commented, "We were contacted by Daly Fluid Technologies and went over to conduct lighting survey on the rigs - we actually knew the rigs already having installed other Hadar products previously, particularly in the shaker houses where our HDL 100 Luminaires were still performing excellently despite the very high levels of vibration. The survey results were presented to Rowan Drilling who approved the lights which have now been installed and are providing a vast improvement in visibility for offshore workers."

“The lights produce purer light, weigh less, last far longer than traditional sodium or halogen equivalents, have no warm up period, produce very little heat and have an expected lifespan in excess of 10 years without any maintenance in line with industry’s preferred ‘fit and forget’ requirements. In addition, power consumption of the new floodlights is approximately 40% of traditional equivalent, with various beam dispersal patterns of between 10 degrees and 120 degrees meaning the light goes where it’s designed to go rather than being wasted."

Paul Wade, General Manager of Daly Fluid Technologies, added, "Hadar had already proved their products with the HDL100's so to Rowan they were an established and assured supplier of high quality lighting for hazardous areas. They were very interested in the LED floodlights which have proved to be very successful for them."

Hadar are currently working to fulfil global orders for the innovative LED floodlights for both onshore and offshore oil and gas applications.
