Wieland’s gesis® GST 18 Plug and Connector System Reduces Installation Time at 11 Charles II Street

Wieland Electric has supplied gesis® GST connectors to facilitate fast cabling of lighting at The Crown Estate’s Charles II Street redevelopment in London’s prestigious district of St James.
The Crown Estate awarded Morgan Sindall the contract to strip out and remodel the Grade II listed building’s internal fabric and services, and fix and clean the existing façades. A key element in ensuring that the lighting was installed on time and with minimum disruption was the use of a gesis® pluggable modular wiring system from Wieland.
11 Charles II Street, formerly known as British Columbia House, was originally designed by John Nash and built in 1914 to house the office of the agent-general of the Province of British Columbia to promote trade and links between the Canadian provinces and the British Empire. The project, completed earlier in 2015 includes a restaurant at street level, with new open-plan offices above. Morgan Sindall’s area director Adrian Barnes said: “This is a fantastic project for the London office and we are proud to be working with The Crown Estate to provide high-quality office and retail accommodation in St James’s”.
Part of the plug gesis® gable electrical installation system, Wieland’s GST18i6 plastic 2.5mm 3 core leads were used for the lighting and 4.0mm 3 core for the power. Apart from installation and maintenance cost savings of up to 30% and installation time reductions of up to 70%, the numerous benefits of the gesis® GST 18 plug and connector system includes the flexibility and reusability of the components. The range can easily be adapted to suit any layout, should the building be put to a different use. Metalynx, Wieland’s structured wiring system, along with MDB’s, Tee’s and Fused spurs were also used on the project.
The gesis® electrical installation system consists of 2 to 5 pole, coded plug connectors, ribbon and round cables as well as a large number of distributors, couplings, in-feed adapters, device terminals as well as electronic components and assemblies for building automation. All components are industry prefabricated and tested. They are designed for mains power supply, extra-low voltage, BUS systems or signal voltage.
Consequently, on 11 Charles II Street these features allowed cost savings through the reduced onsite installation requirements.
