Open Technology Rail Project Shortlisted for BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2014

Clapham Junction lightingLighting control specialist Open Technology has been shortlisted for the prestigious BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2014 for their pioneering work with the South West Trains/Network Rail Alliance.

Open Technology has installed their intelligent lighting control system, LiGO, at over 25 stations and train maintenance depots as part of an ambitious climate change and energy reduction strategy from the South West Trains/Network Rail Alliance, which is estimated to achieve total annual savings of £7–12 million.

Clapham Junction is the latest station to benefit from lighting control. For the first time, Europe’s busiest train station will be able to automatically dim the lights down to a minimum level when the station is not in operation or switch the lights off when the station is completely closed. On average, this will save around 35% of usual lighting use.

Open Technology’s work has been recognised alongside strong competition in the Energy Efficiency Project of the Year category.

“The project shows the important role that controls can play in helping businesses make meaningful reductions in their energy consumption. Over the last three years we’ve shown how easily you can make savings across a variety of infrastructure and it’s great to have that work recognised”, explained Managing Director, Chris Bedford.

Celebrating the leading businesses and individuals from across the green economy, the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards will be presented on 2 July at a glittering ceremony in the City of London
